Knott’s Spooky Farm 2024 – A Family Friendly Halloween Destination

Every year during the spooky season, it’s easy for this Theme Park Duo to get caught up in all of the amazing, elaborate haunts and super scary events that we frequent. But we would be remiss if we did not take time to appreciate all that this season has to offer when it comes to spooky events for all! With the kiddo, we made our way down to Knott’s Spooky Farm (Knott’s Berry Farm) for a fun filled day of trick-or-treating and family friendly spookiness.

Now wether that’s indulging in some spooky food or partaking in the wonderful entertainment. Knott’s Berry Farm is often overflowing with things to do during every season. But of course, this is the one we love the most.

What we love about this event is that it gives kids an opportunity to wear their costumes to the park and just really have a blast diving into spooky season. Every kid gets an orange trick or treating bag as soon as they cross the turnstiles into the park. Our little princess had the best time seeking out the bright purple trick or treating booths in search of candy and other goodies, we especially loved the cute characters that decorated each booth. We wanted to join the Ghost Town Halloween Society! One aspect of Spooky Farm that we miss and wish they’d bring back are the spooky Calico citizens. They were just spooky enough for all the kids visiting the park, but also tested their bravery just a bit. It’s really a shame to see such fun characters disappear because it really set Ghost Town apart from the rest of the park.

One of the biggest highlights of our trip was our adventure in to the Livery Stable to look at all of their spooky critters that they had on display for the Creepy Critters of Calico. This area really got revamped and refreshed this year and we loved all of the changes! First off, they made the exhibits flow together to see all of the creepy crawlies in their various enclosures. This worked much better than previous years, were you just had a crowd of people at the entrance to each of the stalls. With the new layout, each person really gets a good look at all of the critters and no one area causes a bottleneck. The highlight of the barn for us was definitely the photo op! You cannot imagine our surprise and the delight of our kiddo, when we saw that you could take a picture with a real life snake! She was a little hesitant, but ultimately wanted to venture up and take a picture with it! She was even brave enough to pet it once! Overall, all of the changes and improvements to the barn were much appreciated, and really lent itself to a wonderful guest experience. Nikki even got the scare of her life at the table with the cockroaches. Do you think after all these years, she’d remember about the feather duster jump scare? The answer is clearly no, she didn’t remember. Who knew she’d get the biggest scare of the season during Spooky Farm!

After trick-or-treating and our trip to the barn, we made our way over to Calico Square! Here, throughout the day, there are various activities for kids and our little kiddo made a point of saying that she wanted to participate! She still talks about last year when she successfully carried an egg on a spoon and we knew that we had to join in on the fun this year as well. Our kiddo was one of the first in line for the corn-hole toss! Some of the Peanuts characters even come out to cheer the kids along as they participate in the fun and games. Also, the Peanuts characters are dressed up in adorable halloween costumes!

Down the pathway past Ghostrider, you’ll find more Halloween fun! Here you’ll find two different games where guests can win some spooky prizes. One of the games is a “pay for prize” style game where everyone is a winner. This is perfect for smaller kids so they can feel like they’ve accomplished something and done it all their own. The other game is a skill based game where you toss some bean bags at targets. We’re a fan of seeing themed games in the park during the different season because it adds to the overall value of the event as a whole. Although, we would love to see some park specific prizes. Maybe a Halloween version of Whittles or the Catawampus!

As our kiddo was dressed up as the most adorable Boysenberry Princess you could ever wish to see, we knew we could not miss Snoopy‘s Spooktacular Costume Party at the Calico Mine Stage. We grabbed a table and waited with a churro and ice cream for the big event to start. The hosted show included the famous Peanuts characters that we all know and love! Our kiddo loved each one and was full of excitement as she joined them in the line of kiddos as they did several circles around the crowd to show off their amazing costumes. Each child was give recognition and attention for their costumes, which really brought a smile to everyone’s faces. Seeing how excited our kiddo got at being called a Princess made the entire day worth it.

Overall, we absolutely love each and every event that Knott’s Berry Farm puts on throughout the year. Each event is jam packed with entertainment, themed food, and we often find ourselves having to save experiences for the next trip because we can’t fit it all in! They’re able to combine that wonderful “edu-tainment” vibe with the wonderful Peanuts characters and so much more. But Spooky Farm holds a special place in our heart as it’s something that we can truly share with our kiddo in a meaningful way. It’s a fun way to celebrate a day at the park for the whole family. She loves this event with all her heart and has so much fun. It’s something that we can do as a family to celebrate the spooky season we all love, and make memories for years to come. We go so often, and do all the normal stuff, but it is so refreshing to come to the park and spend a day doing something completely different. Ultimately, that is what this Theme Park Duo and kiddo (dare we say Theme Park Trio) love about the special events at Knott’s Berry Farm…it brings us together.
