This week we got a chance to tour two of the upcoming houses for Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2023, Universal Monsters Unmasked and Chucky Ultimate Kill Count. Not only that, but our tour was lead by Creative Director of HHN, John Murdy. While looking at the houses in this fashion spoil a bit of the surprise, we also have audio recordings of the walk throughs if you’d prefer to stay spoiler free! Universal Monsters: Unmasked

The Halloween Horror Nights Universal Monsters Universe is expanding yet again, this time going back to the very beginning with Hunchback of Notre Dame and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. We got a chance walk through the house with Creative Director John Murdy. If you attended Midsummer Scream you got a pretty detailed discussion about this house, but seeing it come to life was pretty amazing, and hearing John’s passion for Universal Monsters and Halloween Horror Nights is pretty awesome. 

The entire house takes place underground, and it is very evident throughout the entire maze through the scenes depicted and the story-cards throughout. No prior knowledge of any of the films depicted is necessary, there is enough here to tell the story, and repeatedly. 

Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count

This is not Chucky’s first time at Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood, so he knows the type of people that come through these houses and he’s out to get all of us! This house almost breaks the 4th wall in a way where we are acknoledged by Chucky himself outside of just the normal scares. Chucky is out to kill vloggers, Express Pass holders…and literally anyone else!

If you couldn’t tell from that, this house is very meta, and it is now my most anticipated house of Halloween Horror Nights. Basically Chucky (the real Chucky) is invading his haunted house, and he’s looking to get, you guessed it, the ultimate kill count. And yes, there is a kill counter in the house!

This is not a retelling of the Chucky series, although there are definitely some scenes from the show, and a few of his movies. So it’s probably good to have at least a basic understanding of the story. That being said, I think this is going to be the “fun” house for 2023, and one that people will want to do repeatedly. I don’t want to give too much away, but there are A LOT of Chucky’s in this house. This is will be one of the most chaotic houses in HHN history for sure.
